Urging passengers to be patient with the temporary inconvenience, Minister of Transportation and Communications Mao Chi-kuo said the administration will do its utmost to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
Mao encouraged passengers to enjoy facilities in the renovated domestic terminal, including the new VIP lounges and various food chain stores and duty free shops set to begin operating Oct. 31.
These openings coincide with the launch of direct flights between Songshan and Japan’s Haneda Airport, which the Civil Aeronautics Administration under the MOTC expects will bring the airport’s departing passengers to nearly 4,000 per day.
To avoid congestion, the airport office has arranged direction signs and more staff to facilitate passenger flow. “With the new 60-meter conveyor belt in place, passengers will be able to get their first piece of luggage in seven minutes and collect all items in less than half an hour,” said Yang Gwo-feng, airport office director, adding that another 50-meter baggage conveyor belt will be up and running in December.
Meanwhile, airline companies have installed four DIY automatic check-in counters and will allow VIP passengers with only carry-on luggage to check in at VIP lounges in an effort to ease passenger traffic.
The administration advised passengers to arrive early at the airport and use the online check-in system or automatic check-ins to prevent delays. (THN)
